Forest Creature - Frustrated Analogue
by skidblue
One of the highlights of last year, Sheffield and London based duo of Forest Creature have evolved from a percussion based, P.E. styled noise duo to something completely different and ethereal on their debut album from Blackest Rainbow. Unlike the experimental improv groups in Sheffield that have garnered alot of publicity as of late, Forest Creature have taken a different approach – incorporating textured and repetitive synths which encompass the seven untitled edits that make up the release. You’ll detect bits of Autchre, Hyperdub-esque keyboard breaks, old techno and Black Dice to name a few sounds, but their original approach explores different and darker territory from all the aforementioned bands without having to be aggressive or distorted. It’s a woozy experience that I’d recommend to all open minded and more leftfield dance and dubstep fans, alongside the more noisy DIY contingent. Their live show is also quite spectacular with flashing tv sets and projections accompanying their performance – I’ll be putting them on at Henry’s Cellar Bar on February 26th, so drop in and drop out!
