Ever since our distant ancestors first thought of using a club to bash something’s brains out, mankind has know the value of simple blunt object. This principle is still very much in play with Battle of Wolf 359. I've been reliably informed the record will be featured on the second season of "Deadliest Warrior", smashing the fuck out of a skull coated in ballistic gel. The science geeks will whoop for joy as slow motion replay shows the brains exiting at high speed through the nose spattering the camera man over fifteen feet away.

For the uninitiated (be ashamed if you are one of those); what you get is two vocalists screaming their lungs up in blackened chunks whilst the band churns furiously away behind them. I suppose if you want cheap comparisons its a bit Bremen School of hard knocks meets Witching Hour Class of 99'. That's by the by though. As it lurches between spastic blast and more ominous crunch I'm not thinking to myself, "ah yes, this treads comfortably familiar ground". I'm thinking, "fuck". What a horrible charnel house of a world we live in. What a shit tip. That people are reduced to such depths, spewing out such cathartic bile just to keep themselves from imploding?

The lyrical content is ciphered but not obtuse, encouraging a little input on the part of the reader (not listener, audibly this just sounds like beasts in pain). A welcome change to the aimless gibberish or trite platitudes often offered up with music of a heavier leaning. All the words are presented for delectation in a well put together zine style booklet, complete with further quotations. The overall effect is satisfyingly cohesive. Grimly determined pessimism as a essential survival tool. I thought this style was more or less dead in the water. I was wrong.
