The Process/Rot In Hell - The Works Of Fate split
by xLordSummerislex
The UK’s two unholiest hardcore bands team up for split to celebrate the works of the Marquis de Sade. The packaging of this record is awesome (done by Glynn Scrawled, who’s done stuff for the Endless Blockade & Snowblood among others), the front being a depiction of the Horned God clutching a lamb, the back being some ravening wolves, all done in silver ink on nice thick black card. It comes with a zine expanding on the theme, with quotes from the man himself, woodcuts depicting scenes of depravity and a letter he wrote while imprisoned in the Bastille. This a celebration of de Sade as the martyr of atheism, his treatment being more to do with what he had to say about God than it did any of his sexual proclivities.
Rot In Hell’s track reminds me a lot of earlier Catharsis, before they’d evolved out of their Clevo influences- ominously descending riffs, raw throated vocals (Dwid Hellion actually makes a guest appearance on here) & tastefully deployed double kick drum.
The Process weigh in with one long track “The Martyr Of Atheism” divided into two parts. The first part “Punishment & Decadence” is slow & heavy, building up to the release of faster second part “Ego & Candour”. All the usual Process elements are present- the crushing slow parts (which are more prominent here), the fast parts (Jason blasts with the best of them) and Gav’s trademark venomous vocals, and he always seems to find a bit more spite when he’s laying into religion. Kind of carries on in the direction tracks like “Thee Chymical Wedding” off their last album went in, which suits me fine.
“The idea of God is the sole wrong for which I cannot forgive Mankind.”
A great release from two of the UK's best harccore bands.
