FOREST CREATURE is the audio-visual duo of Ben Moon and Richard Sides, hailing from Sheffield and London. Performing in near total darkness with flickering TV screens, light bulbs and occasional projections, they pummel their audience with thumping beats, raging psychedelic synth, broken glitches and clicks. If you're into Black Dice, early Warp Records, Animal Collective and aren't afraid of a little beat here and there then FC should float your boat. Their full length “Frustrated Analogue” on the excellent Blackest Rainbow label has garnered some favorable reviews and was one of my personal highlights from last year.

“This appeals to me for the same way reasons as the recent Growing releases that have seen the group base all their compositions on repetitious pulses and loops…a distinctive style that reminds me of Tortoise working a mangled Steve-Reich jam”

“a handful of purloined sounds, are all reimagined, reinterpreted and all tangled up into constantly squirming and unraveling soundscapes, that skitter from almost kraut-like mesmer, to nineties style IDM, to looped woozy minimal synth wave, to gorgeous haunting murky heroin house, but no matter what the sound, or where the songs seem to be headed, Forest Creature mould all those elements into something truly original.”

“It's violent and intense without being aggressively confrontational - a euphoria of industrial simplicity refracted through an adolescence of Peak District raves and grimy skylines.”
